My family and I just got back from Coeur d'Alene, ID. We had a wonderful time visiting my folks and brother. The funny thing was that my parents had no idea that we were coming. I found out that they were going out for dinner at Denny's. That's when the fun began. We worked our way into the restaurant without being noticed. I asked a waiter to deliver a Jesus track and a bright orange "Smile, Jesus Loves You" sticker. I was able to peak at my father's gestures as he looked over the material. He knew something was strange, many looks around the restaurant and small laughs. About 10 min. later, I had a waitress deliver two pieces of apple pie to their table. My mother was not able to contain her curiosity. She got up from her table to take a closer look around the restaurant and just died on the spot when she saw the grand-children. That was the beginning of our vacation with my parents.

My brother, Mark, came over from Seattle to visit too. We had fun looking over my Canon 5D camera system. When just playing around in the kitchen with my camera, I was able to shoot some nice available light portraits. I believe these are the only photographs that I have of my brother. It was nice to photograph my brother who share the same photographic passion as I do.

We drove the 5 Fwy to Bend, Oregon to visit my friend Tracy. We could only spend a few hours touring the city and eating breakfast... but I could already tell that Bend is a city that I would like to visit again. We went by many trucks and farmland, the support system of America. The kids did great sitting in the truck for long hours... 14 hour at one time. We arrived in Idaho after 21 hours.

We Spent the night in a Walmart parking lot in Klamath Falls, Oregon. We arrived late and got up early enough to beat the Walmart shoppers from getting all the fresh doughnuts. Wow, mosquitoes everywhere, even in the store. Just look how tired they were!

Oh, was Steven and Rachel excited to see that Walmart in Oregon and Idaho sold fireworks. They were nearly 1/2 the price of the local road-side stands. Of course we bought a bunch. We also went over to lake Coeur d'Alene for the city fireworks.

The Spokane River that flows out of Lake Coeur d'Alene seemed cold at first to Steven. Within a few moments, he was completely in and loving it, especially after a heat wave had just hit us.

Steven and I went fishing on Hayden Lake, near the country club. I just had to take some photos of a young boy getting his first experience fishing on a lake rather than an over stocked trout pond. He actually caught a fish.... I think a perch.

Poor, little guy..... to small to keep. Steven was excited to catch this guy and almost another. I had 2 fish also. Us guys had fun fishing together.

Rachel was a big trooper on this trip. She just started braces (mouth expander) the day before we left. She loved every moment with my parent's dog, "SHMILY".

It looks like you had lots of fun. Hopefully, I will be able to spend some time in Jackson Hole, WY and if I'm lucky will be able to attend a Canon workshop in Yellowstone.
I remember when I got my mouth expander in 5th grade. Then on the 2nd to last day of school I got it off, and got braces. The next day, I left for Washington DC. It was nice to be on vacation and keep my mind of the braces-which were bothering me.
Hello Family,
We'll it may surprise Steven but the fish he caught isn't a perch, but rather a small mouth bass!
Several ways to tell is that a perch is a member of the sunfish family, as like the croppie. They have a different fin pattern and scales vary. Most distinctly to me is the girth and belly being more oval-like.
The small mouth bass are a little longer and thinner, almost like a small trout but with different markings. The mouth is relatively small, especially when contrasted with the large mouth bass, more often associated with a little warmer water--California.
In your area, Lake Silverwood is a pretty good lake to fish. As I remember, there are some cliffs or rock areas not to far from the dam area. Rent a small outboard boat and check it out! These cliffs have a lot of small mouth bass, as I have caught probably about 100 of them over a period of several years many moons ago. Just throw a jig or a meal-worm just short of the rocks or bounce it off of them and into the water. Some croppie also hang in that area at times. Big mouth bass enjoy the shallows and hang in areas around brush, like croppie prefer. The big Stripper Bass can be caught in deeper water or trolled. They like the open water area along the buoy's and dam area. The fishing boats love to hang out in this area and get as close to the marked off or restricted area as possible. Stripper's migrate from the Colorado River System. Have fun fishing Steven and catch a fish for me!!!!

Well Bill Booth,
You have done some absolutely beautiful work. These pictures are lovely. You truly are blessed with a wonderful gift and a great "eye" for a great picture to capture the moment, it makes me want to get married all over again so I can have you photograph the wedding (oh hold that thought, after 17 wonderful years of happiness, my dress no longer fits!!) Oh well.
Blessings. Luv Kate P.
